Congress Avenue runs straight through downtown Austin, and the stretch between 1st Street and the Texas State Capitol Building is considered a historic district. On Congress Avenue, you'll find the Ann W. Richards Bridge which is home to the largest urban bat population in the world, and many tourists make this a stop when visiting the city of Austin. South Congress also offers plenty of unique shopping and eateries along with excellent live music venues including the Broken Spoke and the Saxon Pub. The area is mainly a commercial district with few housing options. However, the majority of options are apartments or lofts.
